Are you a manufacturer looking to accelerate your growth through advanced services? The Advanced Services Partnership is your answer. This exclusive industry consortium brings together multinational manufacturing companies to learn about cutting-edge tools and techniques, and to share invaluable insights. A cornerstone of the Advanced Services Partnership is our dedicated Servitization Mentorship programme.
What is Servitization Mentorship? It is one of the vital support forms available to the members of the Advanced Services Partnership. Today, we’re talking to Iain McKechnie, one of our experienced Servitization Mentors and Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Advanced Services Group. Iain will share his expertise and insights on how manufacturers can leverage advanced services to drive innovation and business growth.
What is a Servitization Mentor?
As a mentor for two of our partners, I am the focal point for anyone within their respective organisations who want to know, understand or use any of our tools, frameworks, or just better understand how advanced services can help them, and their customers, become more successful.
What do you bring to the role?
My 12+ years at ASG have equipped me with deep expertise in business model innovation, gained from working with a diverse range of 250+ manufacturing businesses. By guiding partners through the Servitization Playbook, I can accelerate their transformation process.
How do you support your partners?
I am responsible for sharing the IP from ASG research with my partners. I ensure that these tools and models are utilised to their full potential. By doing so, I serve as a bridge to help my partners make a positive impact in their processing equipment and the energy industry.
I meet them regularly, build coalitions within my partners and support them when they join us at our three Roundtable meetings per year.
What is the best part of mentoring?
For me, enjoyment comes from being able to use my 40+ years of engineering and business expertise to challenge the partners to make sure the desired outcome is a strong as possible and creates value for them and their customers. Personally, witnessing significant growth in services revenues makes it very enjoyable for me.
Top Tip for Manufacturers
Try and break convention and forget about selling products – circular economy, net zero and sustainability drivers mean moving into advanced services at some point. It’s only a matter of time before Servitization and Advanced Services become part of your strategy – best to start now!
